“I highly recommend Bill and Coby from Bark Construction, plus the team of tradies they work with — electricians, plumbers and all the rest. Honest, professional and the workmanship is top quality.”
Barking Mad About Carpentry.
Decks, renovations & custom builds across the Northern Beaches.
Bark Construction is Coby Wilson and Billy Kennedy. Two carpenters who’ve spent the last fifteen years building decks, renovating bathrooms, and framing custom builds across the Northern Beaches.
When you hire Bark, you get the people who do the work. No project managers, no subcontractors. Just us, on site, every day.
We grew up here. We still build here, every day. Every job we take sits between Manly and Palm Beach: Avalon, Mona Vale, Newport, Dee Why, Curl Curl, Freshwater, Brookvale, Balgowlah, Seaforth, Frenchs Forest and the suburbs in between.
The patch shapes the build. Salt air and southerlies chew through cheap fixings and unsealed timber, so anything within sight of the ocean gets stainless hardware and marine-grade finishes. Sloped blocks in Clontarf and Bilgola need different footing strategies to the flat sites in Allambie or Cromer. Conservation pockets in Manly and Balgowlah can add weeks to approval timelines, and we know which streets they cover.
We know the Northern Beaches Council DA process, who the local certifiers are, and which waste yards run quickest. That local knowledge keeps quotes tight and surprises rare. We don’t work outside the patch.
Five core trades, one team. We handle everything from a single privacy screen to a full home extension.

The questions we get asked most before starting a job.
Yes. Bark Construction holds NSW Builder's Licence 307821C and we carry full public liability and workers' compensation insurance. We're happy to send copies before any job starts.
We work across the entire Northern Beaches — Manly, Dee Why, Brookvale, Freshwater, Curl Curl, Narrabeen, Collaroy, Mona Vale, Avalon, Warriewood, Newport, Balgowlah, Seaforth, Allambie Heights, Beacon Hill, Belrose, Forestville, Frenchs Forest, Manly Vale and North Manly.
Yes. Coby and Billy run every job end-to-end — demolition, framing, finishing, and coordinating any electricians, plumbers and tilers needed. You deal with the carpenters who do the work, not a project manager.
We're typically booked 4–8 weeks ahead. Smaller jobs can sometimes slot in sooner. Call 0424 162 629 for current availability.
Depends on size, materials, height off the ground and site access. A small ground-level hardwood deck starts around $8,000–$15,000. A larger elevated composite deck with stairs and balustrades can run $25,000 or more. We give a fixed-price quote once we’ve seen the site.
Small decks and minor renos can qualify as exempt or complying development under the NSW SEPP. Anything elevated, structural, close to a boundary or in a heritage area generally needs a DA or CDC through Northern Beaches Council. We’ll tell you which path your job falls under, and can recommend a private certifier for the CDC.
A standard deck takes 2–4 weeks on site once we start. A full bathroom reno runs 4–6 weeks. Extensions and bigger custom builds take longer; we give you a realistic timeline (with weather contingency built in) before any deposit.
Australian hardwoods (spotted gum, blackbutt, merbau) and modern composites (Modwood, Trex, NexGen). Hardwood has a richer natural look but needs oiling once a year. Composite costs more upfront and never needs refinishing. We’ll walk you through which suits your site, sun exposure and how much maintenance you want to take on.
Yes. Our carpentry carries the statutory warranty under the NSW Home Building Act: six years on major defects, two years on everything else. Manufacturer warranties on materials (composite boards, hardware, fixtures) pass straight through to you.
Almost always fixed price. We visit the site, lock the scope, and you get an itemised quote. If you change scope mid-job we’ll agree the variation cost in writing before any extra work starts.
